MASSENA -- Singer, songwriter and storyteller Atz Kilcher will perform Saturday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Centre, Route 37.

It will be in the Elite Events Party Room, the former Aladdin's Castle.

The concert will culminate the mall’s Northern Experience event held earlier in the day from noon -5 p.m. Northern Experience will feature music, kids games, activities throughout the mall, vendor exhibits, demonstrations, jewelry making, basket making and scroll sawing.

Kilcher, father of pop and country singer Jewel, is perhaps best known as star of Discovery Channel’s show “Alaska: The Last Frontier.”

This television series documents the life of the extended Kilcher family who lives in the small rural community of Homer, Alaska.

Atz Kilcher is the patriarch of the Kilcher family who continues to follow a sustainable lifestyle. He lives on the homestead settled by his parents, Yule and Ruth who emigrated from Switzerland in the 1930s.

Kilcher is the person who taught his daughter Jewel how to yodel. He has been a singer/songwriter all his life and has performed together with Jewel many times, most notably at the Grand Ole Opry in 2014. Jewel is also a regular visitor to the Kilcher Homestead.

Kilcher is connected to the North Country through his wife of nine years, Bonnie Dupree, who grew up in Fort Covington and Saranac Lake. This relationship to the North Country and also to friends at the North Country Showcase have led Kilcher to Massena to perform this concert.

There will also be a limited number of pre-concert tickets available for the VIP experience from 4-5:30 p.m. within the North Country Showcase, located across from JCPenneys.

This up close and personal meeting with Atz will include the show, free CD, photo opportunity, premium seating at the concert, several songs the other concertgoers will not hear, and an occasional story of growing up on the Alaska Homestead.

The pre-concert VIP experience is available for $65 in advance, and includes concert admission, photo op, cd and premium seating.

General admission for the concert is $35 advance or $45 at the door.

Tickets are available at North Country Showcase, St. Lawrence Centre, by calling 315-705-2170 or online at www.NorthCountryShowcase.com.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the local Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures program.
