POTSDAM –Rich Tenace, magician, performer and mentalist, is offering two classes at the SLC Arts Council in October. Prepare for Halloween parties and celebrations by learning some new skills.

Tea Leaf Reading – Saturdays, Oct. 9 and 16, 10 a.m.-noon. Tasseology (tea leaf reading) is an ancient and world-wide art form and is the most social of all of the divination arts. At the conclusion of socials during the 19th and early 20th centuries, tea drinkers would look at the leaves left over in the bottom of their empty cups and try to see their futures and fortunes. Tea leaf reading has its roots in ancient China and is still performed in many European countries. In this enlightening class, you will learn how to see symbols in the leaves and how to think using the symbolic part of your mind. Note that you do not have to drink any tea in this class if you are not so inclined. Class fee: $40. Materials fee: $10, tea cups will be available to borrow but bring your own if desired.

Magic Club for ages 7-14 – Monday, Oct. 18, 3:30-5 p.m. This is a beginning magic class where youngsters will learn basic tricks with ropes, cards, coins, and sponge balls.
