CANTON -- The annual Phantoms in the Park featuring costume contests, trick-or-treat parade and games and other Halloween activities is scheduled for Oct. 26 starting at 1 p.m. in the Village Park.
The event, sponsored by the Canton Chamber of Commerce, SUNY Canton and St. Lawrence University Student Activities, has drawn as many as 350 children in past years.
The event will start with the annual costume contest, said a chamber press release.
Categories for the costume contest are Scariest, Most Original, Funniest, Most Patriotic, Cutest, Most Creative Use of Recycled Materials and “Families at Phantoms,” for families in costume.
After the contest, a trick-or-treat parade to downtown businesses will begin. Businesses wanting to be on the trick-or-treat parade list, should call the Chamber office at 315- 386-8255.
Any Chamber business is welcome to set up a table in the park, the press release said. Treats from member businesses can also be handed out at the Chamber’s table by volunteers, with a sign with the business name displayed. Call the chamber at the number above for details.
Kinney Drugs is offering a 10% discount to businesses on candy for this event, the chamber press release said.
Volunteers will decorate the park at noon. Anyone wishing to help is welcome to come at that time.
Donated pumpkins, gourds or corn stalks to decorate the park would be greatly appreciated.
