St. Lawrence County unemployment increases in November

St. Lawrence County saw an increase in people on unemployment and the number of people working went down from the same month last year.

The November unemployment rate was 4.6%, up from 4.2% in November 2018, according to preliminary statistics from the state Department of Labor.

There were 2,100 people unemployed last month and 2,000 in November 2018, DOL said.

The DOL also said there were 41,800 people working in St. Lawrence County last month, down from 42,300 in November 2018.

Franklin County saw a similar shift. DOL says their unemployment rate was 4.4% last month, up from 4.1% in November 2018. They had 900 people on the dole last month, and 800 in Nov. 2018. There were 18,700 people employed in Franklin County last month, down from 18,900 in November 2018.

Jefferson County also saw a rise in unemployment and a decrease in the number of people working. They had a 5.5% unemployment rate last month and a 4.9% rate in November 2018. They had 2,400 people receiving unemployment benefits last month and 2,200 in November 2018. There were 41,700 people working in Jefferson County last month and 42,300 in Nov. 2018, DOL said.
