St. Lawrence County’s unemployment rate went down in February, compared to the same month last year, according to preliminary figures from the state Department of Labor.
DOL reports the February 2020 unemployment rate in St. Lawrence County was 6%, down from 6.4% in February 2019. There were 2,700 people receiving benefits last month, down 100 from the same month last year. And there were 41,400 people working in the county last month, up from 41,100 in Feb. 2019, according to DOL.
Franklin County saw similar changes. Their rate went down to 5.6% last month from 6% in February 2019. They had 1,400 people receiving benefits in February 2020, down 200 from the same month last year. They had 18,800 employed last month, up 100 from the Feb. 2019 number, DOL said.
Jefferson County saw a slight unemployment increase, 7.1% last month and a 7% rate in Feb. 2019. They had 3,100 people on benefits both months, DOL said. They lost 100 jobs, with 40,600 employed last month and 40,700 the same month last year.
