St. Lawrence County’s four universities have all received praise in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 rankings of “Best Colleges.”

Clarkson University ranks in the top 125 institutions and leads in the publisher’s new Social Mobility Ranking by being among the top 60 universities in the country for graduation rates and success of students awarded Pell grants.

Clarkson ranks high in Faculty Resource Measure, and is again on the “Great Schools, Great Prices” list, and “Best Colleges for Veterans.”

The survey editors also placed Clarkson in the “A+ Options for B Students” list, which they identify as strongly rated schools that accept students who have potential and will work hard.

St. Lawrence University was ranked 58 and listed as a “best value” school. U.S. News also recognized the university for its first-year experience as well as for Best Undergraduate Teaching and for being an “A+ School for B students”

The college guide places the greatest emphasis on retention and graduation rates among students as well as how well schools graduate students who received federal Pell Grants. Faculty resources, assessments by peer institutions and high school guidance counselors, financial resources, student excellence, and alumni giving round out the ranking categories.

SUNY Potsdam has again been named to the top tier of the best regional universities in the Northern United States.

SUNY Potsdam was tied at No. 66 on the Northern Regional Universities list, its highest placement ever in the 21 years that the college has been recognized in the U.S. News rankings.

SUNY Potsdam was also recognized on the following U.S. News & World Report lists: Top Public Universities, #17 (tie); Best Value Schools, #59; Top Performer on Social Mobility, #37 (tie); Best Colleges for Veterans, #38 (tie); and Ethnic Diversity.

SUNY Canton has moved up three spots to tie for 23rd position in the latest “Regional Colleges North” of the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings. The college was previously listed 26th for 2019.

SUNY Canton also tied for a 13th place spot on the 2020 “Top Public Schools” ranking category and was similarly tied for 13th among “Best Colleges for Veterans.” It also picked up a 14th position in “Best Value Schools” and was ranked 33rd in “Top Performers on Social Mobility.”
