St. Lawrence County chamber launches online marketplace

CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Chamber has launched a new online marketplace in St. Lawrence County, www.shopSTLC.com, and is recruiting “online shops.”

An overview of the selling features will be presented in a webinar Tuesday, Apr. 28 at 1pm. Join the zoom presentation using the link under 'Start Selling' at www.shopSTLC.com.

Online sales and marketing have always been an important aspect of any business, especially those in the North Country who have limited local markets, said a press release from the chamber. The recent pandemic has closed doors and shuttered existing markets, on the sidewalks, at least.

“As the County Chamber, we are always working on ways to help businesses be stronger and generate more revenue. The idea to create a County-wide online marketplace was in the works, and quickly became a top priority when our economy shut down over a month ago,” said Brooke Rouse, St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.

The new marketplace will allow customers to shop online in one place for items produced and sold across St. Lawrence County and will allow for producers, shops and service providers to sell online in a streamlined eCommerce platform, Rouse said.

The website, www.shopSTLC.com, will populate with shops by the end of April.

The Chamber is currently working with businesses interested in joining the platform, preparing them to understand what is required and prepare their product photos and descriptions.

The online marketplace is being offered to enhanced chamber members to create individual shops, offering integrated payment and processing for shipping or pickup, the chamber said.

This is an inexpensive, streamlined way to get business online, which will make businesses stronger now and in the future, as well as create an easier opportunity for people to support and shop local, from event tickets to handcrafted items, to takeout and gift cards, the press release said.
