OGDENSBURG – After two attempts to land were put off by low clouds, the first United/SkyWest flight into Ogdensburg international Airport landed on the third approach Friday afternoon.
Nearly 30 passengers waited to board the first flight out of Ogdensburg, with 18 expected to land and be greeted by public officials for the inaugural SkyWest flights to and from Chicago and Washington D.C.
"The arrival of United/Sky West will give North Country residents the connection to any area of the United States they want to go to,” said Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Chairman Vernon “Sam” Burns. “The OBPA continues to work on the improvements to the transportation network and job market for our area. “We thank the community for their continued support and we ask for any suggestions on where we can fly to next."
"Today marks the beginning of a great partnership between Ogdensburg International Airport and SkyWest Airlines with direct daily United Express flights to United's Chicago O'Hare and Washington-Dulles hubs" said OBPA Executive Director Wade A. Davis. “You are literally now ONE STOP AWAY from the rest of the world. The direct, quick and affordable service will be a game-changer for the regional business and leisure traveler alike."
The SkyWest jet arrived at about the same time as a flight by an Allegiant jet.
"It is great to see simultaneous commercial jet operations at Ogdensburg International Airport,” said Airport Manager Stephanie Saracco. “It is just the first of many more exciting things to come!"
