POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Snack Pack Program received a $1,250 donation from the Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match Program, According to Amy Potter, the Holiday Match Program director.
“More than 1,800 organizations requested over $4 million in support while we had $1.8 million to donate. With so many worthy organizations, we were forced to make some especially hard decisions, focusing on needs versus wants,” Holiday Match Program Director Amy Potter said in a statement from the Snackpack Program.
Since the start of the school shutdown the snack pack program has steadily increased the number of snack packs prepared each week. Volunteers currently work alongside the school district staff at eight locations in and around the village of Potsdam, distributing more than 350 snack packs to local students. Program coordinator Laurell Brault said the donation from Stewart’s Shops “will help purchase additional lunch meals as they are more expensive than snack items.” Stewart’s Shops has supported the snack pack program in the past with hundreds of vouchers for milk, eggs, and cash cards, Snackpack officials said.
With so much uncertainty surrounding feeding programs at the end of the school year, the organization is also exploring opportunities to work with the elementary school and organizations like SLC People Project to provide food for local students during the summer months.
