POTSDAM -- The Potsdam Chamber of Commerce will honor three community members at a formal gala for members and guests on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The gala will be held in Clarkson University’s Old Main, 55 Main St., Potsdam, from 6-10 p.m.

The Pride in Potsdam Award will be presented to the Potsdam Snack Pack Program’s director Laurell Brault.

"Laurell works tirelessly to raise funds so that 250 students in the Potsdam Central School District receive a snack pack each week,” said a chamber press release. “In addition, Laurell and The New Hope Community Church organized a wildly successful Back to School Fair, to benefit our students and their families. School supplies, free haircuts, gently used clothing and more were available to students."

The Commitment to the Community Award will be presented to Yvette Narrow.

Narrow has worked more than 15 years at the Potsdam nutrition site in Midtown Apartments, the chamber said. In her position as supervisor of the site, she oversees meal planning and preparation, as well as daily delivery of nutritious meals to the elderly of Potsdam and nearby communities, the chamber said.

“This is more than just a job to Yvette. She takes great interest in the many people whom she helps to serve every week day, all year round. She is truly caring and compassionate, and strives to build relationships with those she serves,” the press release said. “In addition, every year she helps to put together gifts for the elderly to spread holiday cheer to the often underserved. She uses her own money to contribute gifts to this wonderful cause. Yvette never asks for any recognition, but she certainly deserves to be acknowledged for the service she does for our community."

The Chad Fuller Memorial Award will be presented to the Martin Family in memory of the late Leon Martin who passed away this summer.

For over 50 years, Leon owned and operated Martins Maple Service Station, and was well known for his generosity and service to those in a bind, providing a tank of gas for a wall slip, fixing flat tires and broken car windows in the middle of the night or providing a hot meal to someone in need, the chamber said.

Music at the gala will be presented by local band Northbound. Big Spoon Kitchen is catering the event and Hazen Enterprises is providing beverages.
