New restaurant with two menus opens in Massena's Harte Haven Plaza

MASSENA -- Business owner Marc Morley recently opened Italian and Mexican restaurants in Harte Haven Plaza, adding to his eateries spread across St. Lawrence County.

Hot Tamale and Chix n’ Pies, 160 Harte Haven Plaza, share a dining room but have two separate kitchens.

Tim Prescott, formerly of Tony’s Pizza, is creating the menu for Chix n’ Pies. His locally-famous calzones are on the menu along with his pizzas.

Prescott was working for Morley at another one of his restaurants, Morley’s American Grill, 240 East Orvis St., when he approached him about making pizzas again. Morley’s opened about a year and half ago.

“We are selling out of the calzones,” Morley said. “It’s like the Sergi’s pizza roll to Potsdam -- it’s been around a long time and is popular in Massena.”

Both eateries are open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.

“We added 20 jobs to the Massena community, including four managers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Morley renovated his Hot Tamale location in Canton following severe damage from a wind and rainstorm a couple months ago.

The roof was ripped off from strong winds and the interior sustained water damage from heavy rain. Morley took it as an opportunity to give his business a facelift.

New flooring, paint, decor, furniture and a digital menu have been added to the 67 Main St. location. Other Hot Tamales Morley owns are in Ogdensburg at 1111 Champlain St. and 34 Market St. in Potsdam.

Morley said he and his wife, Megan, are exploring the idea of expanding their Hot Tamale brand to Gouverneur or Malone. He did not expect an expansion any time soon, as he is concentrating on his current restaurants.

He compared his plans to expand Hot Tamale to that of Jrecks Subs, but not as spread out.

Jrecks has locations as far south as the Syracuse area, but Morley wants to keep his restaurants more local so he can better oversee them.

Megan Morley also owns Between the Buns and Club 21, 6 Elm St. in Potsdam.

Chix n’ Pies phone number is 315-769-6666 and Hot Tamale’s is 315-764-3333. They deliver from open to close.
