RENSSELAER FALLS -- The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and Cycle Adirondacks will host The Harvester, a new fall road cycling event, in an effort to attract cyclists from far and near.

“St. Lawrence County is always great for cycling, especially in the fall,” said Brooke Rouse, St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. “We have a full slate of incredible fall events already planned and The Harvester just makes that schedule even better.”

The event takes place Sunday, Sept. 22. It was formally announced at In-Law Brewing where 30 local cycling enthusiasts attended and joined in a ride afterward.

The Harvester farm-by-bike experience will start and finish at Fobare’s Orchards, 180 Johnson Rd., in Rensselaer Falls, and feature a light breakfast, plus a finish line BBQ, complete with live music and craft beer from In-Law Brewing. Guests will also have access to full fall amenities at Fobare’s, including wagon rides, apple and pumpkin picking and entry to the corn maze.

Participating cyclists can choose from three route options with distances of 30, 45 and 60 miles. Along the routes, guests can stop at local farms and historic sites to learn more about the agricultural story of the St. Lawrence County landscape.

Stops included are at Pickens Hall and General Store, Kent Family Growers, St. Lawrence Power and Equipment Museum, Little Grass Foodworks and Fobare’s Orchards.

In addition to road cycling, the event includes options for unners and walkers with the annual Fight Hunger 5K hosted by GardenShare in coordination with the CycleADK Harvester ride. Proceeds from both the Harvester and Fight Hunger 5K will benefit GardenShare, whose mission is to address hunger issues by strengthening the local food system in St. Lawrence County.

“Pairing our annual Fight Hunger 5K with the new Harvester is a perfect fit for GardenShare. It helps us raise funds to address hunger here in the north country, while also promoting local farmers and the nutritious, high quality food they produce,” said Becky Allen, GardenShare Executive Director.

Additionally, CycleADK and local cycling clubs will host a casual group ride on Saturday, Sept. 21 for guests interested in making the event a full fall weekend experience.

“The flat, low traffic roads of St. Lawrence County, coupled with the pastoral agricultural landscape make it the perfect host for a first-class cycling tour,” said CycleADK’s Doug Haney. “CycleADK events are designed to genuinely connect people with place and there is no better place for a fall bicycling experience than St. Lawrence County.”

Event registration is now open at CycleAdirondacks.com/Harvester.
