MASSENA -- The St. Lawrence Centre Arena is closed due to what a mall official describes as “mechanical issues.”
“Mechanical issues had forced us to shut down because the ice wasn’t up to par,” according to Lindsey Breitbeck, St. Lawrence Centre marketing and events coordinator.
Although the arena’s doors closed earlier this summer, Breitbeck is hopeful is could someday re-open or be re-purposed.
“There’s always potential, there’s potential with everything in the North Country,” she said. “Currently, it is closed and anything’s possible in the future.”
The arena was built in 1997 and seats 1,200 people in the bleachers.
“There’s amazing potential, the building’s in good shape,” Breitbeck said.
She said Louisville and Massena arenas are planning more events to accommodate the demand from skaters who participated in the mall’s hockey clinics and camps.
Massena Recreation Director Mike McCabe was not available for comment.
Louisville Arena officials did not return a request for comment.
