CANTON – LeBerge & Curtis, 5986 CR 27, has been sold.

Cazenovia Equipment Company, Inc. is expanding its reach into northern New York with the acquisition of LeBerge & Curtis, Inc.

“This additional location in Canton will be Cazenovia Equipment’s tenth location, which will now encompass much of the southern tier, as well as Central and Northern New York,” according to Colleen Fox, marketing manager for Cazenovia Equipment Company. “The addition of the Canton location will further solidify Cazenovia Equipment’s position as a premiere John Deere and equipment dealership in New York.”

Cazenovia Equipment will take over operations in Canton Nov. 5 upon completion of the acquisition and the business will be called Cazenovia Equipment as of that date.

“The Curtis family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the St. Lawrence County community for allowing us to be your John Deere dealer for the past 65 years,” said Jim Curtis of LeBerge & Curtis. “We have enjoyed the relationships built with each and every one of you, both as customers and friends and we cherish the memories from all of those years. Decisions that have been made over the last several months have been difficult ones. However, we are confident in our choice of Cazenovia Equipment Company’s experience and vast resources to offer our customers and employees the security they need moving forward.”

LeBerge & Curtis and Cazenovia Equipment and have been neighboring John Deere dealers since Cazenovia Equipment’s purchase of their Watertown location.

“Cazenovia Equipment’s desire to grow further into Northern New York and the values that both companies share made acquisition discussions a natural progression upon the retirement of the Curtis family team,” Fox said.

Jim Frazee, Cazenovia Equipment president said, “LeBerge and Curtis has been a staple in St. Lawrence County for 65 years as a family-owned business and we are excited to continue their legacy on as a family-owned business, dedicated to their customers, community and employees. Our goal is to continue providing excellent products and service while expanding the offerings the Cazenovia Equipment network of stores can provide to these customers. We are very happy that Jim Curtis will be joining Cazenovia Equipment to continue managing the Canton location and offer his many years of expertise to our organization. We truly look forward to a seamless transition and working with and serving these customers for many years to come.”

Cazenovia Equipment was founded in 1961 by Larry Love and has remained a family-owned business during its entirety. Upon Larry’s retirement, Larry’s son-in-law, Bob Frazee ran the company until Bob’s retirement in 2012, when Bob’s sons, Mike and Jim Frazee began managing the organization.

Growing from the one store in Cazenovia, there are now nine locations including Cazenovia, Chittenango, Clinton, Cortland, LaFayette, Oneonta, Sandy Creek, Watertown and Lowville. Canton will be the tenth location.

Cazenovia Equipment provides equipment sales, service and parts for John Deere and various other agricultural and residential brand machines.
