POTSDAM -- Lawrence Avenue Elementary School students used shopping carts lent from Price Chopper to learn about choosing healthy foods while shopping.
“On behalf of the students at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School, we wish to thank Price Chopper of Potsdam for their generous support of our PE Price Chopper Lesson in physical education,” PCS physical education teacher Danielle Grant said.
As part of the nutrition curriculum, students learned about choosing a variety of healthy foods during each meal using the USDA's "MyPlate" concept.
By shopping at the PE Price Chopper, students were able to visualize how half of a healthy plate contains fruits and vegetables.
To bring this concept alive, students shopped in their gymnasium using real shopping carts from Price Chopper.
“Students even did a food sampling of broccoli as part of the experience,” Grant said.
