MASSENA -- The conversion of the ice rink at St. Lawrence Centre into a new sports complex is complete and ready for a grand opening party free to the public from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8.
The party will feature free food, laser tag, turf time for kids, and a DJ.
The complex is open for a variety of fun events such as parties for kids, fitness programs and sports leagues.
It is already sponsoring Free Play Time Monday through Friday, for kids under 10 years old from noon to 2 p.m. and kids over 10 from 3 to 5 p.m.
Around the new padded turf field surface is seating for up to 1,300 people.
It is already being used by sports teams for things like box lacrosse, and can easily be set up for indoor soccer, field hockey, flag football and Nerf wars. Equipment such as nets and soccer balls can be provided.
A seniors center could rent it for lawn games like bowling. It is available for birthday parties and all manner of other events.
Sports complex manager Margaret Finen says she is working with mall vendors on packages for things like birthday parties, including food.
Hourly rentals can be easily arranged. Rates will vary depending on the type of event, such as sports practice versus a game or a tournament.
Rental signups and other details are available by calling 315-705-2164 or emailing sports@stlawrencentre.com.
