POTSDAM — A new cafe downtown will soon offer healthy, plant-based food options to the community.
Foster the Plant Cafe, 55 Market St., will offer patrons vegan and vegetation options. Hours are Sunday through Thursday 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Friday and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The owners, Scott and Lynzie Schulte, both lead active lifestyles and have seen the impacts of poor nutrition or unhealthy lifestyle choices throughout their careers, according to their website. Lynzie is a physical therapist and Scott is a nurse anesthetist.
They plan to source organic and local ingredients as much as possible for their new eatery.
All food and drink offerings are plant-based, the website says.
Fresh produce on their salad bar is locally sourced as much as possible with seasonal offerings and toppings.
The salad bar is $9.99 per pound and offerings change daily.
Also on the menu are smoothie bowls which change daily. Some staples are acai mango or banana, pitaya bajada, and build-your-own.
Toast choices include chickpea toast, pizza toast, avocado everything and PBJ&M, which includes Potsdam Co-op Bakery bread topped with peanut butter, berry-chia jam and maple syrup.
The eatery will also feature oatmeal bowls with fruit and maple, seasonal and fried fruit and nut options, as well a build-your-own bowl.
For those in a hurry, there will be grab-and-go options too.
Inside their cafe, they plan to showcase art and handcrafted items made by North Country residents.
The Schultes also aim to minimize their impact on the environment through repurposing items used at the business working toward a zero waste goal.
Their tables and seating includes woods, metals and recycled plastics.
