CANTON -- The Community Bank N.A. Canton, NY branch recently presented the Help Sami Kick Cancer Foundation with a $4,000 donation to support renovations to create the Lodge @ Dreaming Tree Ranch, a 200+ acre property on Wilkinson Road.
The lodge will be a place that allows families who have received a pediatric cancer diagnosis to reconnect through nature.
The Lodge @ Dreaming Tree Ranch was inspired by Sami Curtis, who passed away in 2017 after a two-year battle with cancer, and her desire to help others. Sami’s parents, Jim and Karen Curtis, founded the Help Sami Kick Cancer Foundation to continue her legacy and continue fighting cancer in Sami’s name.
“It was important to our team to come together with the community and raise money for this local project,” Community Bank N.A. Team Member Teresa Hitchman said. “Sami was so involved in her community—her passion has touched us all and fueled the community to help support her mission. This project allows us to continue fighting cancer in Sami’s name.”
Renovations at The Lodge @ Dreaming Tree Ranch are expected to finish by fall 2019. Once complete, the lodge will offer families a wide variety of outdoor activities to experience North Country, including nature trails, skiing, horseback riding, ATVing, swimming, fishing and campfires. The property will also include a sugar house for making maple syrup.
“The Help Sami Kick Cancer Foundation has found yet another gracious supporter in Community Bank,” Jake Newman said. “Their fundraising efforts and the donation they provided to the foundation are a testament to the selflessness and compassion that are ingrained in our local businesses and the community as a whole. Community Bank's donation will go directly into our efforts to bring our vision to reality and create a sanctuary for families facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis at The Lodge @ Dreaming Tree Ranch. We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all those who helped fund this generous donation.”
