Buster's restaurant in Canton closes permanently; Ogdensburg location still open

CANTON — COVID-19 has led to the closure of another North Country business. This time, it is Buster’s Sports Cafe on Main Street.

The business was open for about 5 years. The owners say Buster’s Sports Bar & Restaurant in Ogdensburg will remain open.

A message on their website says deliveries will still be offered to Canton. “Due to Covid-19 our Canton location is closed,” the website says. “We will still be offering delivery to the Canton community during the lunch hour with advance order. Please call 315-323-4513 to place your order.” Exact details can be found at https://busterssportscafe.com/ .

The owners of Buster’s made the closure announcement on their Facebook page. The announcement said:

“Covid 19 has impacted each one of our lives in one way shape or form. It has forced many of us to think more simplified, to not take any moments for granted, to want to spend more time with our families, to be thankful for food on our tables, longing for human interaction on a normal level etc. Unfortunately things will not be normal for a period of time, we have to each transition into this new normal the best we can.

“Like most we have been forced to think how our business and personal lives can be improved.

“Over the years we have faced many issues with our building; it’s size and capacity have always created challenges. We tried to offer as many choices as possible for our customers in our cramped space including our 20 ft soup & salad bar. Our lease is ending and we are unable to settle on what we consider a fair lease term with our landlords. Before this crisis we had a successful profitable business and we in the process of trying to negotiate a new lease. As many know with Busters In Ogdensburg, 3 young children (6-3-2) and Terry having a part time job for insurance we are very busy. We have had many family conversations about slowing down, taking more time for family. When we opened 5 years ago we were a family of 3 and now we are a family of 5. We have had 4 weeks to reflect on our businesses, spend some quality family time and think about what is best for our family. The Canton community has been so wonderful and to all of those whom have supported us for the last 5 years, we are beyond thankful and grateful for you. Business is unknown at this point and we need to make changes that make the most sense financially and personally.

“We anticipate so many customers to be saddened by our decision to not reopen at 109 Main St. in Canton but like we have had to do throughout this virus is to see the silver lining. Our silver lining is spending more time as a family. Our location in Ogdensburg will remain open. We promise you will see us again soon!

“Thanks again to every single person whom as patronized us for the past 5 years; that have been more like friends and family than customers. This was not an easy decision, very bitter sweet. Please continue to follow our page as we will have more updates for you all soon.”
