CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Business Resource Mixer will be held Thursday, March 2, at the Best Western University Inn.

The event is sponsored by Clarkson University, the New York Power Authority, St. Lawrence Country Industrial Development Agency and the Small Business Development Center at SUNY Canton.

The event is targeted at promoting the many resources that are available to local businesses as they work to advance their companies or grow into new markets.

It is also aimed at entrepreneurs who are looking to start a new company.

Attendees will hear from local businesses that have made the most of local resources, learn about their challenges and meet the people who can help them advance their businesses.

The mixer will start with registration and networking from 4-5 p.m., followed by success stories from five St. Lawrence County business owners from 5-6, and a networking and cocktail hour from 6-7.

Business people attending the event will meet the many resource partners who can help answer questions about the needs of each business.

Most of these partners offer free services to businesses, including low-interest loans, energy efficiency programs, assistance with business plans, prototyping support and grants for upgrading manufacturing equipment.

Attendees will also be able to network with other regional business owners and employees, learn what they are doing to increase their profitability and discover new connections that could help keep dollars in St. Lawrence County.

St. Lawrence County business owners will share how they have overcome significant challenges by taking advantage of some of the services presented.

Those presenting currently include Marijean Remington of Atlantic Testing Laboratories, Eric Tessmer of Riverside Ironworks, Billy Hosmer of Hosmer’s Marina, Peter Reiter of Structural Wood Products Inc., and Jeff Proulx of Save-A-Lot Stores.

Staff from Clarkson's Shipley Center for Innovation, New York Power Authority, the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency and the Small Business Development Center at SUNY Canton will be on hand to help connect business owners/leaders with the resource partners who are best equipped to assist them.

In addition, representatives from a number of local, county, regional and statewide development organizations will be available to answer questions about the services they provide in support of business.
