POTSDAM -- Terry Joseph Morehouse, age 66, of Potsdam, NY passed away on Sunday, December 31st, 2023, under the loving care of Hospice and his family.

Services for Terry and his wife, Nancy are to be held on March 15th (time to be announced) with a celebration of their lives to follow.

Burial will be in the spring at the Riverside Cemetery where Terry and Nancy will be laid to rest with their daughter, Chelsea.

Terry was born on January 3rd, 1957, in Potsdam, NY.

He attended Norwood Norfolk Central School.

Terry married Nancy Hyde on September 20th, 1980, at the First Presbyterian Church in Canton, NY. They spent 40 loving years together raising their sons. Terry was deeply proud of the life he and Nancy were able to provide for their family and future generations bearing the Morehouse name.

Terry was known as a workaholic, always focused on providing for his family.

He began working at a young age, with his first job being a local paper route. Terry moved on to work for Danko Development Corporation building housing developments before starting his career at Chet Bisnett, Inc.

Terry’s career spanned nearly four decades, having stayed on as the company evolved from a local scrap yard where he was a laborer and operator, to a regional waste management company, Casella Waste Systems, where he retired as an Operations Supervisor for the scrap metals division.

Terry was an avid outdoorsman and motorhead. He shared his love of fishing with his children, taking them bullhead fishing on the banks of the St. Lawrence River.

Terry spent many hours waiting for that big buck to walk out, but ultimately never set any trophy records.

Many mornings were also spent with friends and family on rabbit hunts throughout the local community. Terry shared his passion for hunting by giving back to the community as a New York State Licensed Hunters Education Instructor, preparing future generations who shared the love of hunting.

When not in the woods, Terry could be found tinkering in the family garage on anything from chainsaws to demolition derby cars.

Anyone who knew Terry heard the story of how he had to sacrifice his most beloved possession, a Blue 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner with an air grabber hood! Second to that was his K5 Blazer, which was given to him by his foster mother, Thelma.

For Terry, the work was never done, he spent countless weekends and evenings buying and selling scrap metal from local auctions and consignments. He included his children in this passion, instilling an exemplary work ethic, by simply setting the example.

In his retirement, Terry traveled across the country, spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.

Terry is survived by sons, Corey (Samantha) Morehouse of McNeal, AZ, Cole (Mallory) Morehouse of Potsdam, NY, and Mickey Morehouse of Canton, NY; daughters, Linda Morehouse of Burlington, NC, and Tanya Morehouse of Hermon, NY, niece, Yvonne Walden of Santa Fe, NM; as well as sister, Emma Bush of Massena, NY. Terry is also survived by an abundance of loving nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
