Susan L. Dresye, 67, Canton

CANTON -- The family of Susan L. Dresye, age 67, are saddened to announce her passing after a brief illness at the Carthage Area Hospital on Friday, December 8, 2023.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena, NY.

Sue was born to the late Gerald J. and Veronica (Parker) Dresye in Potsdam, NY on July 27, 1956.

She attended Holy Family and graduated from Massena Central in 1974. She continued her education at SUNY Potsdam.

She began her career at Courier Freeman Newspaper in Potsdam, NY. She then began at SUNY Potsdam and retired as a Librarian Clerk in August of 2023 after 45 years of service to the state.

She's involved in Girl Scouts and played the French horn in Roethel's Marching Band.

She also served as an editor for, The Quarterly, distributed through the St. Lawrence County Historical Association.

Sue enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid photographer.

She also served as a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY, and enjoyed the company of her family and her feline companion “Mr. Fluffy”.

She is survived by her niece, Kimberley, and husband, Thomas MaComber of Massena, NY; and nephew, Gregory Wise of Canton, NY; along with a great-niece, Evelyn MaComber; a brother-in-law, Herbert E. Wise of Canton, NY, as well as many cousins and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased by her sister, Sharon D. Wise in July of 2023.

As per the family’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral services.

A graveside service in Forest Cemetery in St. Regis Falls, NY will take place at the convenience of the family at a later date.
