MASSENA – St. Lawrence County high school seniors have the opportunity to apply for the Erik Hondusky Memorial Scholarship.

Erik was a dedicated husband to his wife Raylene, father to his son Brandon and grandfather to his granddaughter Madison.

He was also a very dedicated volunteer in his community, serving more than 35 years with the Massena Volunteer Rescue Squad where he held the offices of President, 1st Asst. Chief and 3rd Asst. Chief.

He also volunteered with Helena Fire and Rescue where he served as Safety Officer for 7 years. He took this job very seriously and always had his eye out for everyone’s safety.

Erik also joined BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse). He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and helping children. Erik was a huge proponent of trade or tech schools, having gone to TCI in East Windsor, CT. becoming a HVAC tech. Throughout his life Erik set an example of sacrifice, hard work, dedication, service to the community, and leadership.

This scholarship is open to all high school seniors in St. Lawrence County and will be in the amount of $1,000. The scholarship will be granted to one candidate who the committee feels best exemplifies Erik's values.

The committee will use a point-based system to choose the top candidate. One point will be given for each of the following: Child of a volunteer fire or EMS member, candidate entering a tech or trade school, GPA, attendance, candidate volunteer work. 

All applications must be complete and received by April 19; any incomplete applications will not be considered. The recipient will be announced at the winner's school award ceremony.
