To the Editor:
If the village of Potsdam is going to be giving out parking tickets this winter, and expecting people to put money in the meters, then the least the village can do is clear the snow banks from around all the meters.
If the meters are not accessible for the average person, then how does someone who is disabled, on crutches, or otherwise struggling with walking, climb over the mounds of packed snow to get to the meters.
If the village is so intent on getting money from the parking meters, then the village needs to spend the money to keep the parking meters cleared of snow and ice throughout the winter season. It's the least the village can do to be decent to the people coming to town to shop, visit their favorite food places, and spend tax dollars that help the village.
If the village wants to discourage people from visiting Potsdam; giving parking tickets at inaccessible meters is the way to do it.
It's time to rethink the village's parking meter practices. You can do better, Potsdam.
