OGDENSBURG - The Frederic Remington Museum has been rebranded as the Remington Museum of Art to reflect the broader range of artwork featured in its galleries, while continuing to highlight the work of Frederic Remington.
Mayor Michael Tooley and Councilor Donna Trimm discussed the change after touring the museum July 30 with Executive Director Maggie McKenna.
Tooley said the museum continues to focus on Remington’s paintings and sculptures, but now also features works by his contemporaries and artists with an affinity for his style.
The museum also recently received renewed accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, recognizing its professional standards in education, public service and stewardship. Tooley said the museum has undergone its most significant transformation in nearly three decades, including reinstalled galleries and new educational displays.
According to Tooley, McKenna also outlined plans for future enhancements that could contribute to tourism, education and economic development.
Tooley noted that American Cruise Lines passengers visiting the Remington Royal Dock are among the visitors expected to contribute to the museum’s tourism impact.
Numbers related to the actual traffic and visitor counts at the museum were not discussed.
