OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg police are warning residents of a phone scam in which the caller pretends to be the chief of police.
On Tuesday, Oct. 17 the Ogdensburg Police Department received information that citizens are receiving phone calls from an individual claiming to be Chief Kearns from the Ogdensburg Police Department.
This subject is demanding personal information and threatening the call taker with arrest.
“No member of the Ogdensburg Police Department or law enforcement in general will demand personal information in such a manner over a telephone. If a citizen is ever concerned over the legitimacy of a phone call claiming to be law enforcement, they may request the agency name, officer name, supervisor name and a call back number,” police said. The Ogdensburg Police Department can be reached at 315-393-1551.
A community meeting will be held Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall to discuss a variety of crime related issues facing the community.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend.
