Peter G. Paige, MD, has been named as the inaugural chief clinical officer at UVA Health. He is the son of Paul and Nancy Paige of Norfolk.

Paige will have the responsibility of overseeing health system-wide patient care and clinical operations.

As its statewide expansion continues, UVA Health is growing to serve the needs of more patients and communities across the Commonwealth - including our three hospitals and affiliated clinics in Northern Virginia and Culpeper, our program expansion in partnership with Riverside Health in Eastern Virginia and multiple clinical affiliations throughout the state.

The chief clinical officer will guide clinical operations and quality of care throughout the entire health system, spreading best practices across UVA Health to ensure excellent patient satisfaction and outcomes.

Dr. Paige comes to UVA Health from Albany Medical Health System in Albany, N.Y., where he serves as chief executive officer of the Albany Medical Center Hospital. He previously worked at Jackson Health System and University of Miami, where he served as an executive vice president, chief physician executive and chief clinical officer.

As chief executive officer of Albany Medical Center Hospital, Dr. Paige has worked to shore up the hospital's finances, erasing a budget deficit while maintaining high-quality patient care as well as an excellent educational experience for doctors-in-training. As chief clinical officer at Jackson Health System/University of Miami Health, he oversaw care quality, patient safety, clinical research, graduate medical education and all the health system's chief medical officers. He also led Jackson Health System's emergency management and disaster programs, which included preparation for infectious disease outbreaks.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Le Moyne College in Syracuse and his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University, along with a master’s in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University. He completed a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
