CANTON – There has been no formal arrest made in an early Saturday morning incident at the East Main 7-11 convenience store that resulted in injuries to three police officers.
Canton police officer James Gibson responded to an alleged burglary at the Sunoco location around 1 a.m. Saturday. Upon exiting his police vehicle, the suspect ran toward Gibson who used his taser, according to Canton Police Chief James Santimaw. The subject then pulled out the taser probes and jumped into a van.
Sheriff’s Deputy Seth Carr arrived at the scene when the suspect drove the van toward Carr, smashing into his vehicle and flipping him onto the vehicle and onto the parking lot. The suspect then drove the van into a Canton police vehicle then arrived at the scene. The suspect was later taken into custody on County Route 17 in the Town of DeKalb.
A second sheriff’s deputy, Travis Stephenson, received a cut to his arm at the Route 17 custody scene.
