Michael J. LaBar, 72, formerly of Hopkinton

HOPKINTON/ELLENTON, FL -- Michael J. LaBar, 72, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at home in Ellenton, FL while under the care of Hospice and his companion, Anne.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

His family will honor him with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 4th at 2 pm at his home.

Michael was born in Potsdam on January 26, 1952, son of the late Charles K. and Geraldine M. (Russell) LaBar.

He worked for General Motors in Massena for 10 years and went into automotive repair as an auto body technician, working for Butch's Auto Sales in Norfolk.

He was a man that worked hard, told you how it was, where you could be mad at him and laugh at him at the same time.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Michael found great enjoyment in lawnmower racing, a hobby that brought the family together.

He is survived by his two children, a daughter, Lisa Greenwood of Nicholville and a son, Michael LaBar, Jr. of Massena, his companion, Anne, his siblings, Jean and Lloyd Wilson, Susan and Ernest Wood and Sally LaBar, all of Hopkinton, and Joan Huto of Parishville, four grandchildren, Haven LaBar of Winthrop, Kierston Greenwood and Auston Greenwood of Nicholville and Christine LaBar of Massena, three great grandchildren, Nataleigh and Landen Gonyou and Savannah Chambers.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles, and Chuck and two sisters, Geraldine LaBar and Janet Fuller.
