Massena Salvation Army offering 'Learn how to fish" event

MASSENA — This summer our Massena Salvation Army is planning to have a learn to fish instruction club. This will be an instruction and a lab day out at the Massena Intake, putting into practice what we had learned on class day. We will have spots available for 12-15 registrants. Our hope is that this will be a 4-6-week time that will happen each year.

It is our hope that we can receive enough donations that all startup equipment will be provided to each registrant to keep at the end of the club. This will allow them to be able to fish beyond just our course time. We are aiming to have a fish off event to wrap up our summertime course for the registrants.

Being able to spend time out on the water during the summer is essential to one's inner peace. Our hope is that we can teach kids to fish and to catch fish so they are more interested in that than other things that can lead to trouble. It reminds me of the saying, “To teach a man to fish he can eat for the rest of his life, to give a man a fish and he can eat one fish.”

Our hope is to have 12-15 registrants ages 13-15 years old.

If interested, send us a message on Facebook The Massena Salvation Army, NY  by calling our office at 315-769-5154 and we will put your name on the list for further information and registration when it is available.

The community can support the club with monetary donations or in other ways by contacting me at 315-769-5154 or by mailing in a donation with the fishing club in the memo to PO Box 107 Massena NY 13662. We are looking for professional fishermen who may want to come in and share some information during class time.
