Massena Central student selected as Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month

NORWOOD – Kalei McDonald, a Massena Central School student, has been named the Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month for October.

Kalei is in the Health Careers Program at the Seaway Career & Technical Education Center. She is the child of Jamie McDonald.

While in Health Careers, Kalei and her classmates are learning concepts of health and wellness, nutrition and patient care, medical terminology as well as anatomy and physiology. Students receive training in CPR and First Aid. During year one, students learn the necessary skills and gain hands-on clinical experience to be eligible to sit for the New York State Nurse Aide Certification. During year two, students receive further training for eligibility to pursue certification as an EKG and Phlebotomy Technician. Dual enrollment opportunities also give the students a chance to earn a total of 13.5 credit hours.

The instructor, Alexandria Arquitt, has said the following about Kalei: “Kalei is a courteous student and a natural leader among her peers. For the second year in a row, she represents Health Careers as a student leader. Kalei maintains safety, integrity and professionalism in both the classroom and the laboratory settings. She is someone that you would be lucky to have taking care of you in the health careers field.”

Students selected as Program Student of the Month for their class at Seaway Career & Technical Education Center include Alivia Gilson, Criminal Justice, Devin Green, Electrical Technologies,and Julia VanWagner, New Visions Medical Careers, all from Potsdam Central School; Lillith Borrelli, Education & Human Services, and Gaige Murdie, HVAC/R, both from Canton Central School.
