Margaret Ruth Lavare, 95, Bombay

BOMBAY -- Margaret Ruth LaVare age 95 passed away Friday (Jan. 26, 2024) with the love of her family at her side.

Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Maggie was born November 18, 1928, in Ellenburg, NY the daughter of the late John & Catherine (Dominy) Cole. She attended school in Ellenburg.

She united into marriage with Vernon J. LaVare on August 14, 1948. He predeceased her on October 7, 2016.

For over 18 years Maggie was employed with the Highland Nursing Home as a Nurse’s Aide.

Maggie loved caring for her family and visiting with all who stopped by to visit. Her scalped potatoes were the best, everyone loved them. She also loved canning, especially beets.

Special memories will be forever in the hearts of her children, Debbie (Tim) Premo of Brasher Falls, Rick (Brenda) LaVare of Brasher Falls, Vernon “Joe” LaVare of Helena and his companion, Amanda Southworth, Julie (Pat) Shorette of Helena, Robin (Tammy) LaVare of Bombay, Cathy (Brian) Stowell of Brasher Falls, Missy LaVare of Constable and her companion, Sylvain Lafond, Mindy LaVare and her companion, Dave Montgomery of Brasher Falls, Bill LaVare of Brasher Falls and a daughter-in-law, Vanessa LaVare of Brasher Falls. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great -great grandchildren.

She will fondly be missed by her sibling, Doris LaLonde of Tupper Lake, Sharon (Patrick) Klause, of Pennsylvania, John (Judy) Cole of Alabama, Joan Gaff of Tupper Lake, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive her.

Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her son, Michael; a grandson, Brandon Hartigan; brothers, Kenneth and his wife, Jean Cole, Leonard and his wife, Joyce Cole and a sister, Leah McClure.

A time of visitation will be held Friday (Feb. 2nd) from 4-6:45 p.m. at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Funeral services will commence at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in the spring in Carville Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Maggie’s honor may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 6805 US Highway 11, Potsdam, NY 13676.
