GOUVERNEUR — A man drowned Tuesday evening near Quarry Road, according to state police.
Troopers responded around 5 p.m. to Quarry Road for a report of a possible drowning.
Troopers and members of the Underwater Recovery team found Shawndre O. Sheffield, 32, of Albany, Georgia in the water.
A preliminary investigation reportedly determined Sheffield jumped off a small cliff into a pond, had trouble swimming back to shore and drowned.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine an official cause of death.
There is no indication of any foul play, police said.
This investigation is continuing, officers said.
