Local 4H members win equestrian ribbons at New York State Fair

Four members of the 4H group from the Equestrian Sport training Center (ESTC) in Winthrop earned ribbons at the New York State Fair in Syracuse on Sept. 5-6.

Tiffany Buschbasher-Curran, owner of ESTC, coached seniors John Mahoney-Ruiz (Potsdam) and Jordan Perry (Parishville) as well as Juniors Mila Matejik (Massena) and Madison Newtown (Brasher) to win several ribbons in the 4H horse show rings and in the Pavilion.

The ribbon count for Mahoney-Ruiz was one 5th place, one 2nd place, and two 1st place; Perry two 8th place, one 7th place, one 4th place, and one third place; Matejick three 1st place; Newtown two 10th place, a 7th place, and a 2nd place at her first State Fair and her second away show.

Each rider had to qualify for the State Fair by winning Blue Ribbons at the Gouverneur St Lawrence County Fair earlier in the summer.

Winning a Blue Ribbon at the State Fair is the highest honor a 4H Equestrian can earn. Each county in NYS can invite 4 riders in each division to show in the New York State Fair.

“It was a fantastic trip to the State Fair for Equestrian Sport 4H members. Lots of smiles, lots of laughs, and lots of sunburns. Thanks to the riders and supporting members Kadence and Bobbi for coming down and cheering us on,” said Buschbasher-Curran.
