Gretchen Braun, a student from Lisbon Central School who won a state title in the 100-yard backstroke as a member of the Canton Central girls swim team was recently honored by Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) in Albany.

Braun won the Girls 100-yard backstroke title at the NYSPHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving Championship on Nov. 18 at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster.

Stec highlighted this achievement in remarks on the Senate floor and commemorated it by passing a resolution in Braun’s honor. He was pleased to meet with Braun, her father Peter Braun, Lisbon Central School Athletic Director Erika Backus and Lisbon Central School Superintendent Patrick Farrand and personally congratulate all of them on her historic season.

“I was so glad that Gretchen Braun could come to Albany yesterday and be honored for her historic season and remarkable record-setting 100-yard backstroke championship victory,” Stec said. “Gretchen earned her success through hard work and dedication, and it was great to celebrate her achievements with her family and mentors yesterday.”
