Laurie Lynne Wood, 78, Canton

A private graveside service will be held in Crary Mills Cemetery.

Laurie was born in La Mesa, California, on March 10, 1946.  She was a daughter of the late Ernest J., Sr., and Queen Verilla (Kemp) Kizer and graduated from Ukiah High School in Ukiah, California.  She later attended Mendocino Community College also in Ukiah, California.

She married Robert J. Wood in Reno, NV, on July 11, 1975.  The couple raised a daughter, Emiley, and a son, Tyler.

While living in California, Laurie was employed as a seamstress for various large clothing factories often tailoring clothing for sports teams and large national retailers such as Sears, JCPenney, Macy’s, and Nordstrom. 

After moving to New York, she was a homemaker and also had her own craft business, selling her wares at craft shows and in local shops.  Some of the items she was known for were cat toys, baby quilts and other various items for infants. 

Surviving are her husband, Robert J. Wood of Canton; two children, Emiley (Joe) Thacker of Canton and Tyler Wood of Canton; a granddaughter, Avery K. Thacker, of Canton; a sister, Janice Elaine Robinson of Ukiah, CA, and a brother, Ernest John (Franel) Kizer, Jr., of Gilbert, AZ.  Also surviving are a nephew, John Andrew (Angela) Kizer of Gilbert, AZ and a niece, Amanda Lyn Kizer of Gilbert, AZ.

Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton is handling Laurie’s care and arrangements.
