Kid's Expo to be held Saturday in Canton

CANTON – The North Country Kids Expo will return to the Roos House at SUNY Canton Saturday, March 16.

Kids and families alike will experience a fun day filled with activities, play zones, on-site demonstrations, and the chance to gather information from local businesses, organizations and exhibitors who cater to families in the North Country.

The event is hosted by the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. Entrance is free for ages 12 years and under, thanks to a sponsorship by St. Lawrence Health; $5 Admission (cash) for those ages 13 years and over.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a full list of exhibitors and entertainment, go to https://www.visitstlc.com/kids-expo-2024/

“Exhibitors of the event are excited to meet and share what they have to offer. We have over forty participants this year in the categories of attractions, childcare, education, family services, health care, and shopping,” noted Kathryn Puleo, Tourism & Events Manager for the County Chamber. This year’s Kids Expo also includes the return of “Kid Biz vendors, operated by young entrepreneurs under age 13.

“The venue at the Roos House is perfect because it gives families plenty of room to roam and explore, while being contained within the fieldhouse,” added Puleo. “I was blown away last year with all the excitement surrounding the expo and the sense of community. Kids were making new friends while parents were learning about programming and services that they were previously unaware of and seizing the opportunity to ask questions while their kids were busy playing.”

Along with slime-making, interactive STEM activities, and meet & greets with Daniel the Tiger and SUNY Canton’s Rudy, the event will also feature educational entertainment to engage families and bring new elements to the expo.

Lena The Lizard Lady will bring her exotic animals that children can meet from 10:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.! Families can interact with lizards, snakes and sloths in a safe environment. Lena’s “We Aim to Amaze” entertainment is a hands-on educational experience, so come prepared to be amazed to interact with her exotic animals.

A variety of species will be featured including bearded & water dragons, tegus, crested & leopard geckos, skinks, chameleons, boas, corn snakes, milk snakes, hognose, and pythons. Even a couple of sloths will be “hanging around”!

Afternoon entertainment will feature a Kid’s Friendly Total Solar Eclipse Presentation from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. by Aileen O’Donoghue, Henry Priest Professor of Physics from St. Lawrence University. The presentation will review what Totality is and what to expect on Monday, April 8th. Kids will also learn about the solar system and how the rare out-of-this world experience occurs when the planets align.

Aileen will also be available to answer questions surrounding the eclipse at a special Total Solar Eclipse Vendor Booth in combination with the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Team. The chamber will also have ISO Safety Certified Eclipse Viewing Glasses for sale for $3. The glasses are branded for experiencing the eclipse in St. Lawrence County and profits will help support future programming.
