CANTON – A Massena man has been found guilty of first-degree burglary and second-degree robbery after a four-day jury trial in St. Lawrence County Court.

St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua announced that Adam Baublitz, 35, was guilty of the charges Thursday, Dec. 14, and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility pending sentencing, which is scheduled for Feb. 20, 2024.

The defendant faces a maximum sentence of 25 years with the New York State Department of Corrections as a Second Felony Offender.

These convictions arise from an incident that occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 23, 2022, when the defendant and another individual forcibly entered an elderly victim’s home.

Baublitz and his accomplice attempted to steal money from the victim and in the process caused physical injury to the homeowner.

“I am grateful to the jury for their hard work and their thorough examination of the evidence in this case,” Pasqua said. “This defendant, and any person that chooses to invade the sanctity of a person’s home, will be held responsible for his horrific actions against a member of our most vulnerable community. Hopefully the sentence imposed in February sends that message loud and clear.”

The Massena Village Police Department conducted the initial investigation and Pasqua thanked them for their continued assistance with the prosecution.

Pasqua further thanked Assistant District Attorney Alexander Nichols and Assistant District Attorney Dillon Bullard for what he said was their hard work and excellent presentation of the evidence in the courtroom.
