Grand Shanghai Circus coming to Ogdensburg

Over 40 acrobats will showcase a dramatic interpretation of classic Chinese dance and performance art when the Grand Shanghai Circus arrives Feb. 24 for the next Ogdensburg Grand Performance event.

The 4 p.m. staging is billed as the Grand Shanghai Circus but is headquartered nationally out of Branson, Missouri at the Mickey Gilley Theater and features dozens of the best circus performers from around the world, including Russia, Europe, China and other parts of Asia.

Ogdensburg Command Performances Administrator Sally F. Palao says the 4 p.m. stage time is deliberate to accommodate families of all ages.

“This is a show that appeals to every age, young, old, teenager,” Mrs. Palao said. “Good, wholesome family fun on stage is not always easy to come by these days. These circus performers are honestly among the best in the world. I can’t imagine someone leaving without a smile on their face.”

What sets the Grand Shanghai Circus aside from other national circus acts is the extraordinary and inventive feats of strength, skill, control, balance, grace and charisma, according to officials in Branson.

By combining stage LED technology and artistic skill the Grand Shanghai Circus performers deliver world class entertainment that includes breathtaking acrobatics, colorful dance and costumes, comedy, mystic magic and aerial feats of strength, according to promoters.

Mrs. Palao said tickets are selling rapidly but there is still time to purchase a seat at the 4 p.m. Feb. 24 performance at the George Hall Auditorium at Ogdensburg Free Academy High School in Ogdensburg.

She said some of the stunts the audience may witness include foot juggling, yo-yo tricks, chair balancing, acrobatics numbers, and dramatic interpretations of traditional stories.

“This is one of the best acrobatic shows in the United States which is why they have their own theater in middle America in Branson,” Mrs. Palao said. “It’s a perfect fit for our beautiful North Country.”
