MACOMB — A Gouverneur man was jailed on gun and drug charges following a raid of a home on State Route 58 Nov. 16, according to state police.
New York State Troop B Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET), Counter Terrorism Unit, Community Stabilization Unit with help from the St. Lawrence County Probation Department, executed the search warrant following an ongoing firearm investigation, troopers said.
Police seized a .300 BLK AR-style rifle, with an attached suppressor and a high-capacity magazine, officers said. The rifle reportedly did not have a serial number, which would indicate it was either a ghost gun or the serial number was defaced.
Also, approximately one gram of methamphetamine, and a quantity of clonazepam pills were located during the search.
Matthew W. Hopper, 37, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon: Possession of a suppressor, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon: Assault weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon: Large cap magazine, and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, officers said.
He was arraigned in Gouverneur curt and remanded to St. Lawrence County on $5,000 bail, police said.
