OGDENSBURG -- Funeral services for Douglas F. Abar, age 71 of Ogdensburg, will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday (Feb 10, 2024) at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Deacon Mark LaLonde officiating.
Burial will be private.
Calling hours will be held also on Saturday from 12:00pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Abar passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday (Feb 7, 2024) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center after being stricken at home.
Surviving is his wife, Cheryl; two sons, Christopher (Shannon) Abar of Ogdensburg and Jacob Brabant of Ogdensburg; a step-mother, Florence Abar of Heuvelton; two step-sons, Jason & Tia Sias of Ogdensburg and Andrew Sharpe of Ogdensburg; a step-daughter, Nicole Sharpe of Ogdensburg; grandchildren, Damien Ashlaw of Canton, Kadence & Trinity Brabant of Ogdensburg and Olivia & Hazel Sias of Ogdensburg; three brothers, Randy (Linda) Abar of Ogdensburg, Jeff Abar of Ogdensburg, Peter (Lisa) Abar of Heuvelton; sisters, Pam Love of Ogdensburg, Becky (John) Dottie of Malone and Teresa (Steve) Carter of Ogdensburg; brother-in-laws, Joseph (Carol) Sias of Ogdensburg and Michael Sias of Ogdensburg; sister-in-laws, Sandra Languein of Oswego, Bonnie Dewey of Ogdensburg and JoAnne Hart & her companion, Daniel Hazen of Ogdensburg; along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Jo & Francis “Douglas” Abar; a sister, Angie Premo and his mother & father-in-law, Nilah & Robert Sias.
Doug was born on August 23, 1952, in Ogdensburg, a son of Francis “Douglas” & Mary Jo (Amo) Abar.
He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and was later married to Cheryl Sias on August 29, 1996.
During his career he worked for the United Helpers Nursing Home as their Director of Buildings & Grounds for 30+ year.
He was a member of the Morristown Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed hunting, going to camp, his pet dogs, and spending time with his family.
Doug looked forward to his yearly trip to Ithaca with Randy, Ray, Chuck, and the boys, and going to Lake George when he could.
