Dennis James Griffin, Sr. 86, formerly of Lisbon

LISBON -- Dennis James Griffin, Sr. 86, formerly of Lisbon, NY passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, in West Plains, Mo.

His wife, Sandra, moved them to Missouri in July 2021 so she would be closer to her daughter.

He was born in Burke, NY, on November 12, 1935, to Rolland and Laura Dora Griffin.

Dennis spent numerous years of his life dairy farming in both Burke and Madrid, NY. Dennis worked for Walsh Trucking for 25 years and retired as a Teamster Truck Driver.

After his retirement from Walsh Trucking, Dennis & his close friend, Gordon Richards, purchased a semi-truck with sleeper for long haul trucking. Together, they hauled numerous loads for the U.S. Government and delivered to installations across the United States.

Dennis was a patriot who took great pride in his Country.

He enjoyed gardening, feeding birds, caring for stray cats and telling stories to his family and friends.

If anyone stopped for a visit, Dennis was a gracious host; quick to offer a cold beverage with entertaining conversation.

When healthier, he took great pride in keeping a meticulous lawn.

He is survived by his children, Diane Latimer and husband, James, Deena Claffey and husband, Walter, Dennis Jr., and wife, Francine, Donald, Darlene Nelson and husband, William, Darrin and wife, Janice, Dean and his companion, Julie, Daniel and wife, Sharon; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition, survived by a brother, Bruce Griffin and wife, Susan; five sisters, Jane Collins, Judy King and husband, Joe, Sharon Griffin, Nancy Dora and husband, Donald, Betty Marlow and husband, Thomas. Also, survived by his wife, Sandra Griffin and step-daughter, Shava Norsworthy.

He was predeceased by his parents; a son, David; a daughter, Denise; a sister, Susie Lawrence; and brothers, Leonard, Otha, Maurice, Francis and William Griffin. Also, a step-son Daniel Benson.

A marriage to Elizabeth Anne Griffin ended in divorce.

A private ceremony will take place at a later date convenient to the family.
