CANTON – The Canton Rotary Club marked the conclusion of its 2025–2026 Rotary year during its annual Officer Changeover and Awards Dinner, held at the Lobster House in Norwood.
The evening celebrated new leadership, recognized outstanding service, and honored a member whose five decades of dedication have helped shape the club and the community.
The evening began with an inspirational message from Reverend James Galasinski of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton. He encouraged members to continue making a difference through compassion and service, reminding the audience that Rotary's greatest impact comes from caring for those in need.
Outgoing President Kathryn Mullaney installed the club's 2026–2027 officers: Donna Sturge, President; Brian LaVair, Treasurer; and Tim Welpe, Secretary. Donna Sturge was also named Rotarian of the Year in recognition of her outstanding dedication and the many ways she has strengthened both the Rotary Club and the greater Canton community.
A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of Tom Lee, who joined the Canton Rotary Club in January 1976. Surrounded by a surprise gathering of family members, Tom was honored for 50 years of Rotary service. For half a century, Tom's dedication has inspired fellowship, strengthened the community, and exemplified Rotary's motto, 'Service Above Self.'
Throughout the year, the Canton Rotary Club supports numerous local organizations and initiatives, including the Veteran Banner Program, the Canton Daycare Center, the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund, the Riley Room at the Pavilion, Yoga in School, Friends of the Canton Library, and many other community projects.
