Barry P. Skipka, 69, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- A funeral service for Barry P. Skipka age 69 of Ogdensburg, NY will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Fox & Murray Funeral Home at 2:00 PM with Deacon Mark Lalonde officiating.

Calling hours will be held prior from 12:00 PM until the start of the service.

Mr. Skipka passed away on the early morning of Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by loving family.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fox & Murray Funeral Home.

Barry was born on November 25, 1954, in Port Jefferson, New York, the son of Frank J. and Virginia E. (Blackburn) Skipka.

Barry graduated high school from Heuvelton Central School in 1972 and later from Canton A.T.C. with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1974. After graduation, Barry worked as a Dispatcher for the Ogdensburg Police Department from February 1975 until 1978.

He then left to become a United States Border Patrol Agent in El Paso, Texas. In December 2004, he retired as a Senior Patrol Agent from the Ogdensburg Station.

He married and later divorced Mary Ann Hynes.

On June 22, 2002, Barry married Vicky Hooper.

He was a member of The International Order of Odd Fellows Seaway Lodge #41 in Ogdensburg and the Ogdensburg Moose Lodge.

He enjoyed gardening, collecting stamps and coins, going to bingo with Vicky, and going out to eat.

Mr. Skipka is survived by his wife, Vicky Skipka of Ogdensburg; his mother, Virginia E. Skipka of Ogdensburg; his brothers, Curt and his wife, Julie Skipka of Lisbon and Brian Skipka of Belgium; a sister, Michelle and her husband, Tom Carkner of Ogdensburg; his step-children, Shawn (Jade) Crosby of Ogdensburg, Amy Crosby of Potsdam, NY, and Kim Walters of Pope Mills, NY; his in-laws, Arnold and Nancy Hooper Sr.; and many step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Frank Skipka, and his brother, Mark Skipka.
