In response to "Troopers Are Needed," which ran in the March 11 issue of North Country This Week, I feel we have too many police officers in our county. A couple weeks ago I met four trooper cars between Canton and Colton and also saw five law enforcement cars between Ogdensburg and Canton recently as well. Two troopers, two Border Patrol and one sheriff. That's about one police vehicle for every four miles. No wonder we can’t afford to fix our roads and bridges. I think out county would be served just fine with the sheriff’s department and local police departments. How many times a year do you call state police? Is it worth the cost?
