In response to “First Black Female Astronaut Visits CU,” we were embarrassed to see the tacky headline that emphasized the astronaut’s race and gender instead of her achievement. The implied slam is that she might not have really earned membership in this exclusive group. You would not see this gaffe in many other newspapers in the nation. If Clarkson University, which has been known for its male chauvinism, wrote the press release, NCTW didn’t have to run it as is. A simple photo accompanying the article would have sufficed. And if NASA is introducing the woman in this manner, shame on them.
