You want to create the Town of Norwood and take control of your destiny. But let’s stop and take a harder look. The town would have to elect and pay for a supervisor, council members, justices, town clerk, tax collector, highway superintendent, and three assessors. They would have to pay for clerks, attorney, code officer, dog warden, historian and highway crew. They would have to pay for town hall, highway garage, salt storage, dump trucks, plows, payloader, grader, bulldozer, tools, and related office equipment. They would also have to pay for fire, health, and liability insurance, retirement, workers comp, fire protection, ambulance services, fringe benefits, referendums, primary and election costs, heat, internet service, fuel, gravel, asphalt, salt, sand, and recreation. Then the multiple lawsuits and years of litigation that will occur as a result of creating Norwood. This leaves us with one burning question left: who is going to get the bill for this? Of course silly, taxpayers will. As you can, see taking control of their destiny is going to be expensive proposition.
