Personally, I have found the Amish to be good people and friendly, helpful neighbors. I’m glad they are part of our communities. Yes, their buggies could be better marked and illuminated. Even the attentive, careful driver can hit one. Do the Amish want collisions to occur? Of course not, but they want the alternative even less: that they “decorate” their buggies in an ostentatious manner that they believe is ungodly. They are choosing what is, in their minds, the lesser of two evils. There are only a handful of accidents each year and I agree that even one is one too many. But they are willing to live with their choice, and by doing so they are risking far more harm to themselves than to us English. Food for thought.
