We live in the village of Potsdam. We pay separately for our water, sewer and trash (not included in the taxes). We do have snow plowing for the sidewalks (most important for students and those walking to school and business and a convenience for our senior citizens). We maintain our roads and have police and fire department. Now, someone please tell me what we get for county taxes we pay, since it seems town-outside-villagers seem to think we villagers are getting so much “free”. Having lived in over 20 other cities and towns, we have never paid such high taxes, including Connecticut. Accountability and questioning should be expected of all elected officials. And more money kicked in by the local universities for police and roads and fire protection since village taxpayers pay for that as well. You bet I will vote “yes” if it means an awakening to the two governments that can’t seem to ever get along and do things that are best for the village and town as a whole.
