So let me get this straight...SUNY Canton had a major fire in a chemical lab, forcing the closure of campus, canceling classes and sending nearly all students home for a week until hazmat teams and investigators can determine if campus is safe. YET, for some reason, on the same day as this terrible event that rocked the campus, they played a hockey game against Syracuse University? What message is being sent by this state-funded institution? That collegiate games are somehow more important than classes or the welfare of these student-athletes? One official was quoted in a recent article that “We’re talking about people’s lives, and we want to be sure the buildings are safe to occupy.” If that’s the case, and the campus is safe enough for games to be played and for athletes to stay and live on campus, why send everyone else home? Completely bizarre decision-making.
